Attorney Eric H. Opin is a private practice attorney with offices in Milford, Connecticut. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association Elder Law Section and the New Haven County Bar Association Medical – Legal Committee. He has over 10 years of health care and legal experience. Prior to opening his private practice, Attorney Opin worked in a variety of health care settings including an Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut, the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services, the State of Connecticut of Department of Public Health, and the Office of the Attorney General’s Healthcare Fraud, Health Insurance and Whistleblower Unit.
Attorney Opin has an extensive managed care background. His experience includes the initial credentialing of the BlueCare Family Plan, risk contacting for over 1,000 providers and 10 hospitals for the BlueCare Family Plan, rate setting review for the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services’ HUSKY A and HUSKY B plan, and drafting of academic health care contracts for the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health.
While employed at the State of Connecticut, Attorney Opin served as a negotiating member of the State of Connecticut Health Care Cost Containment Committee, responsible for the selection of health care plans for approximately 77,000 State of Connecticut employees, beneficiaries and retirees.
While a law student, Attorney Opin interned at the Office of the Attorney General’s Healthcare Fraud, Health Insurance and Whistleblower Unit, where he was performed legal research and worked on the prosecution of several fraudulent health care providers and nursing homes.
Additionally, Attorney Opin served as counsel to the Connecticut State Board of Accountancy, where he was responsible for all legal matters for 8,000 licensed Certified Public Accountants (“CPA’s”) in the State of Connecticut including the review and resolution all complaints made against CPA’s.
Attorney Opin holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Colgate University In Economics and History (1990), a Master of Public Health degree from Yale University (1994), where he graduated distinction, and a law degree from Quinnipiac University (2003). While at Quinnipiac, he received the Excellence in Clinical Work Award for his work at the Office of the Attorney General and the Distinguished Academic Achievement Award for Managed Health Care. Attorney Opin is licensed to practice law in the State of Connecticut.
Attorney Opin resides in Cheshire, Connecticut with his wife Wendy, son Adam, and daughter Lauren.
